Anzavir-R tablet is a combination drug used in antiretroviral therapy to treat HIV infections. Manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, it is composed of two antiretroviral drugs, ritonavir, and atazanavir.

Anzavir-R Tablets are used to treat HIV-infected patients. It may also be used as post-exposure prophylaxis ( or PEP) to prevent HIV infections in cases of needlestick injury or other potential exposure.

How does the Anzavir-R Tablet work?

Anzavir-R Tablet consists of 300 mg of Atazanavir and 100 mg of Ritonavir, both of which are protease inhibitors. Protease is an essential enzyme for viruses to multiply. This medication stops the HIV viruses from multiplying by blocking their access to protease.

These cannot cure HIV infections but when combined with other antiretrovirals, these decrease the amount of HIV viruses in the body and eventually make the levels undetectable.

Risks to consider

Antiretroviral Medications like the Anzavir-R Tablets can cause Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (or IRIS). As the immune system slowly rebuilds itself and gains strength, it may often cause some infections to suddenly flare up. This is generally considered to be a sign of recovery.

It is advised to not drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as they often leave you with altered vision or dizziness.

If you have a history of liver issues, let your doctor know beforehand as these may in some cases aggravate liver conditions.

This medication is not recommended for use in patients who weigh less than 40 kg.
