Uses

Efamat 600 mg Tablets are used together with other antiretroviral medications to treat HIV infections. 

It is also used to prevent HIV after a needle stick injury or potential exposure to HIV.

 

How does the Efamat 600 mg Tablet work?

Efavirenz present in the Efamat 600 mg Tablet, is an NNRTI or non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Reverse transcriptase is a vital enzyme that HIV needs to multiply. By blocking this, the amount of HIV in the body decreased.

As with other antiretroviral medicines, this medication does not cure HIV. Rather, when taken properly it can help reduce HIV to undetectable levels If the levels of HIV are undetectable, the patient can live a long and healthy life like an HIV-negative individual.

If you have a history of seizures, let your doctor know. Efamat 600 mg Tablet may cause convulsions in people who have had seizures.

People who have taken this medication and experienced allergies should not continue this medication as it may cause severe hypersensitivity reactions.

This medication is safe to consume during the first trimester of the pregnancy, however, it has been found that it passes through breast milk to the child. Hence, avoid breastfeeding while on this medication.

Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or do tasks that require good concentration as this medication may make you feel dizzy, sleepy and affect your motor skills.

 

Dosage

Take Efamat 600 mg Tablet as prescribed at the same dose and for the same duration. Swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. This medicine must be taken on an empty stomach.
